Where Do You Find Inspiration?

July 26th 2008 15:56

Even non-fiction writers need to find inspiration. It could be something as simple as a blog post like this one, or a lengthy article…. either way, inspiration has to come from somewhere? Do you have a hard time finding inspiration?

I find inspiration from the simplest things: the going’s on of daily life, my children, school work, current events, or conversations. Sometimes I find inspiration from flipping through a magazine, surfing the Internet, or sifting through junk mail.

There are days, however, when inspiration seems to be lacking. What am I going to write about next? Where is my next idea going to come from? Where is my idea notebook when I need it the most? Days like that are very frustrating and I worry it will lead to writer’s block.

Where do you find inspiration? How do you keep the inspirational fires burning?

Much like yourself, my inspiration comes from the world around me. When I'm not gaining that inspiration from that which normally occurs in my life, I take it outside, so to speak. I will plan a day trip out to the late, walk through the woods or just drive on the highway for hours on end.

I find inspiration from absolutely everything, but especially from people. I am a people-watcher by trade...LOL. I observe them everywhere I go and then use them in my writing, whether it's fiction or non. I can honestly say, I've never had a day when I couldn't think of one thing to write. My problem is usually the opposite. Hmmmm...what do I do about that (the brain that works overtime)? ~Karen
