The Importance of Goal Setting
August 22nd 2008 18:16
Setting goals have been the bread and butter of my freelance writing career since I took my fist step into the writing pool in 1999. I firmly believe that, if goals are not in place, you never really know where you’re heading or if you’re on a solid path.
From month to month, I create a set of goals I hope to achieve. This set of goals is then broken down into day-to-day tasks. Some months are better than others, but that’s par for the course. I’d rather have a set of goals that were not achieved (that can be re-worked for the next month) than to have no goals or direction at all.
That being said, I’m thinking about what my goals for September are going to be. I feel the need for a shift in my career path, but these goals are still a work in progress. I’ve expressed some of them elsewhere, but I’m still unsure of which will be concrete and which are just fleeting ideas. (Yet another part of being a freelancer – deciphering that which is a true goal and that which is a hope or a wish.)
What are your thoughts on goal making? Do you create a set of goals on paper (or on your computer) to work on from month to month? If not, do you find success through other methods?
