Superstitions Are No Surprise

I am an extremely superstitious writer, and I always have been. Superstitions have played a large role in my career, not unlike the careers of other freelance writers I’ve come across in the past decade. Why are we so superstitious?
In my case, I worry that I will not land a particular gig (especially a big deal) if I talk about it before it’s all firmed up. For example, I want to talk about the deal I’m working on now . . . but I’m so excited, and so worried about the whole thing . . . I feel like if I don’t stay tight lipped about the whole thing, that it won’t come to fruition.
This is a common superstition among writers and, I don’t know if I adopted this because I’ve read about it so much or if it based on experience. Honestly, I don’t know if I’m ready to explore the answer to that question!
Are you a superstitious writer? Do you remain closed mouthed about a particular gig until contracts have passed, or until your firm up the details of the assignment? Why or why not? If you are superstitious, do you know where these superstitions stemmed from?
