Setting the Mood
May 13th 2008 16:44
Staying motivated is a hiccup in even the most seasoned freelance writer's career. There are down days, there are up days, and there are days that fall short of each one way or another. How your work environment is set up plays a big part in that.
In my office, there is a lot of chaos. I have about half of it set up with a project area for my kids, and the other half is my work area. There's papers, books, supplies, computers, odds, and ends everywhere. If I didn't "set the mood" with attempts at tranquilty, I don't think I would accomplish much.
My first step is playing classical music. I developed a taste for this music in school and, as the years progressed, it strengthened. I keep it playing each time I'm in my office and I've already noticed a difference in my productivity. Not only does it inspire me to create more, but it relieves a lot of stress while I'm working.
How do you set the mood in your workspace?
