Notes From the Trenches: Non-Payment
April 27th 2008 22:06
It's been years since I've experienced the issue of non-payment. So, when it became an issue once again recently, I felt as though I was swimming in uncharted waters.
What do I do?
Who do I contact?
Is there any recourse?
Honestly, this is still an open issue (and an open sore). I'm wading through trying to find a solution, but it looks as though I'm not the only writer suffering non-payment issues with this individual.
What's frustrating is that I really enjoyed the work - A LOT. When I landed the gig, my first thought was, "wow, this is just too good to be true." Was I projecting? Doubtful. How could I have envisioned this type of outcome?
Reality strikes the writer when they're least expecting, though. It's so important to stay on our toes at all times and not be a push-over. That's my biggest mistake . . . giving people the benefit of the doubt when it is not deserved.
How do you handle non-payment issues? Has this happened to you more than once?
