Mine the Details

Mining for details. We've all heard that phrase before, but what does it really mean? Does it mean that we have to dig to uncover the meat of the story? Does it mean that we have to include every little detail in the piece of writing?
Some people change it a bit to read, "Mindind the details." Does that mean that we have to pay attention to every detail? Does that mean we aren't paying enough attention to every details?
The short answer to each of these questions: yes. It's that simple. Even when you're facing a tight word count, or no word count at all . . . the details are still imporant. If you're not suppying your reader with enough information, then why are you writing the piece? (this is mainly for non-fiction writers)
Mining for these details is just as important as a gardener tending to their crop. Seeds need to be planted (the idea), watering needs to happen (brainstorming), weeds need to be removed (editing), and harvesting needs to occur (presenting details).
