Keeping Track, Losing Mind
October 8th 2008 16:54
I’m always on the prowl for new and innovative ways to keep my business organized. Sometimes I come across diamonds in the rough, and other times I waste time trying out methods that were a complete waste of time. With the changes in technologies occurring just about everyday, it should be fairly easy to find good organizational methods for freelance writers . . . right?
Not necessarily. I’ve been trying to find the “perfect” computer program or website that will work for my needs. I’ve been receiving recommendations left and right and, while these methods work “better than any other” for these individuals, it’s just not a right fit for me. And, that’s okay.
My tried and true pen and paper will remain by my side until I find a better method. I have a notebook at my side for my to-do lists, another for my research notes, a binder for my book research, a binder for my query tracking, and a notebook for my month map. As I’ve written before, this pen and paper method allows me to consistently embrace my writing roots because I’m not spending my day typing and clicking . . . I’m actually writing.
My business is in the process of experiencing some exciting growth, so I imagine I’ll be enlisting the use of some additional notebooks. I’m not complaining, I’m merely pointing out reality. This, of course, will cause more stacks on my desk. And, that’s okay. I haven’t lost my mind . . . yet.

I think I've already lost my mind. Been looking for it, but I think it decided to run away to the Bahamas for a permanent vacation.
