Home Office Woes

August 19th 2008 18:19

That’s it. There’s no more getting around this fact. I have GOT to get my home office back in order. No more putting it off. Not more making excuses. It HAS to be done!

In the beginning of the summer, I think if memory serves me correctly, I moved my home office from one corner of the basement to another. (Yes, the desks were VERY hard to move by myself.) I got as far as arranging the furniture and stacking the boxes of “stuff” neatly . . . and that’s where it ended.

There still isn’t any power or Internet hook-up, there’s stuff pile everywhere, and I can’t find anything I work with regularly. It’s a complete mess. I can work down there during the day, so long as I don’t need an Internet hook-up.

I’ve been working on a TV table in the corner of my living room (my printer is hidden nicely next to a love seat), but it’s hard. I move to the coffee table, to the gliding rocking chair, and then to the couch . . . sometimes to the bedroom, too. I don’t have wireless Internet, so there are cords everywhere.

It’s getting old. I need my office back. I worked in there (it was framed, but not finished) for two years and now I’m back to no office, and no walls. I can live without walls, but I can’t live without power and I can’t live in a MESS. So, I’m going to pick away at this disaster for a half hour per day (or more, if possible) until it’s as organized (well, usable) as it was before I moved everything.

Do you have “issues” with your home office? Do you wish you had a dedicated room to use as a home office?

I use my bedroom as my office. Which means my bed is my
computer chair. We don't have anymore space.

If it's any consolation, I have no internet access on my computer (and I don't have enough access to this one to do much writing), which is driving me completely insane. And I have a lot of binder organizing to do. I should probably look through that giant stack of papers again.

Let's just say I feel your pain before I think of anything else that I should get done.

(And yes, I am reading every vaguely interesting post you've done recently. Get over it.)

LOL Thank you, Diana - I like that you're reading and commenting!

I can understand where you're coming from. For years, my "office" was my bedroom. It took a LONG time to get to this point. LOL

I have binders to go through, too, now that you mention it . . . ugh . . . isn't it funny how much material writers collect?

*Shrug* I don't mind my office being my room, because it makes late night writing (and I work best at late night hours) better for me. I can just fall asleep without needing to move much.

That is kind of funny. I love talking to writers, I really do. They understand *nod*.

And writers tend to be more open to me because I have an obsession with 'evil' and 'dark' stuff which writers seem to understand more, too.

Writer friends=good.

LOL Yeah, I'm heading into the area of true crime writing, which delves into many dark and evil topics. So, yes, I can certainly understand you! LOL

I agree!

I write dark fantasy.

Hmmm. True crime. Readable, definitely. Evil and dark, yep.

I have to say that some of my best friends are from Nanowrimo.

I used to do nano yearly (between 2002 and 2006, but I took last year off beccause I was working on a non-fiction book. The same thing will be true for this year. Maybe next year I'll get to do it again.

This is my fifth year.

I have a hard time writing nonfiction.

I prefer non-fiction over fiction. I do like fiction and want to pick it back up regularly, rather than as a hobby.

Ah. I have this strange inability to write anything long that isn't fiction. I don't know why. I just can't keep myself focused on it. But the blog is good, and I've kept up with that for a while now.

It's a great start, right?

It is. *Nods* It's not like I need to write nonfiction. I already write everything else. *Eyes large binder*
