Everything is Different, But Somehow The Same

I’m amazed at how things have changed so much since I first decided to become a freelance writer. My first gig was for suite101.com in 1999 and, as quickly as all of that happened, it all seemed to change. Before, my sites were set primarily on being published in print or on high traffic websites.
Nine years later, things are very different. I find myself interested in blogging (which, as I recall, was not a typical term used amongst writers when I started out), and book-length material. I’m not so hung up on heavily researched pieces, per word rates, or how many glossy publications are in my files.
I’m not really sure why I changed how my business is operating. I do know that the “times” are changing and it’s important to be adaptable. Look at how we communicate now, for example. Before, it used to take a very long time for a writer to hear back about a query. Now, you could know the same day you send it out.
How will things be nine more years from now?
